Provo, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Haws scored 27 points and Eric Mika contributed a double-double in leading the BYU Cougars to an 89-76 triumph over the Santa Clara Broncos in a West Coast Conference tilt at the Marriott Center.
Mika had 15 points and 10 rebounds for BYU (16-9, 8-4 WCC), which has won three straight. Kyle Collinsworth added 18 points and five steals and Skyler Halford chipped in 12 points.
Brandon Clark and Jared Brownridge each netted 16 points for Santa Clara (10-15, 3-9), which has lost six straight. Jalen Richard chimed in with 10 points.
BYU knocked down 53.3 percent of its shots from the floor and 19-of-21 at the free-throw line to roll into halftime, leading 53-40. Santa Clara connected on an even 40 percent from the floor in the period.
Although they cooled to 36.7 percent shooting in the second half, the Cougars were able to easily post the victory by limiting the Broncos to 40.6 percent shooting, while outscoring them 12-4 from the free-throw line.
BYU was the superior team on the inside, with a 50-32 advantage on the boards and a 44-24 edge on points in the paint.
