Riverside, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Patton recorded 12 points, 12 rebounds and six assists to lift the UC Riverside Highlanders to a 72-69 victory over the Cal State Fullerton in Big West Conference competition at SRC Arena.
Taylor Johns netted a team-high 13 points for UC Riverside (8-14, 3-5 Big West), while Steven Thornton and Steven Jones each had 12 points.
Michael Williams and Alex Harris each scored 20 points to lead Cal State Fullerton (7-14, 2-5), which has lost five of its last six.
After shooting 63 percent from the floor in the first half, the Highlanders took a commanding, 41-27, lead into the break. The Titans hit on just 44 percent from the floor in the period.
Cal State Fullerton knocked down 44.4 percent from the floor, including 6- of-11 from 3-point range, to rally in the second frame. However, UC Riverside was able to hold on, thanks to a pair of free-throws from Austin Quick with 15 seconds to play. The Titans had a chance to force overtime, but Williams missed a 3-point attempt in the final seconds.
UC Riverside had a 38-27 advantage in rebounds. Cal State Fullerton outscored its hosts, 24-12, from beyond the arc.
