Moscow, ID (SportsNetwork.com) - Stephen Madison netted a game-high 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Idaho Vandals edged out the New Mexico State Aggies, 73-67, in a Western Athletic Conference clash at Cowan Spectrum.
Sekou Wiggs scored 16 points, and Mike Scott chipped in 11 for Idaho (9-14, 3-6 WAC). Connor Hill rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Vandals with 10 points. Idaho ends a two-game losing streak with the victory.
Daniel Mullings scored 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds for New Mexico State (17-8, 6-3). Both D.K. Eldridge and Kevin Aronis tallied 12 points in the losing effort. The Aggies ended a three-game winning streak with the loss.
Idaho came out a bit flat in the first half, connecting on just 36.4 percent of its shots from the floor, and found itself down 36-32 at the half. New Mexico State hit 45.5 percent of its field goal tries in the first frame, but went just 3-of-12 from 3-point range.
The Vandals improved to 46.7 percent shooting in the second period, and hit 9- of-12 attempts from the free-throw line. The Aggies shot 50 percent from the floor, but went 2-of-9 from distance and allowed Idaho to outscore them, 41-31, in the second.
Idaho earned the advantage from the free-throw line in the contest, 15-6, and won the battle in second chance points, 16-12. New Mexico State had the edge in points in the paint, 46-32.
