Manatee commissioners OK rezone of land at Frog Creek

February 6, 2014

MANATEE — A 6.9 acre parcel of publicly-owned land was rezoned Thursday from “conservation” status to “mixed-use” at the request of the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

The Manatee County Commission unanimously OK’d a land-use change for the parcel near Frog Creek, close to the intersection of Interstate 275 and U.S. 41.

Water district officials had listed the parcel as “surplus,” with plans to sell it in order to buy more valuable new acquisitions.

The parcel, which is a former borrow pit, adjoins a 120-acre piece of land that the water district intends to restore, water district officials said after the land-use meeting.
