Recap: Marquette vs. Butler

Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Jamil Wilson and Todd Mayo each netted 17 points as the Marquette Golden Eagles staved off the Butler Bulldogs, 69-62, in Big East Conference play at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Wilson grabbed six rebounds, and Mayo dished out four assists for Marquette (13-10, 5-5 Big East). Davante Gardner tallied 13 points, and Deonte Burton chipped in 11 in the win. The Golden Eagles have won two of their last three games.

Kellen Dunham scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds for Butler (12-10, 2-8), which has lost three of its last four contests. Khyle Marshall netted 13 points, Elijah Brown had 11 and Andrew Chrabascz contributed 10 in the loss.

Neither team shot well from the floor in the first half, as Butler connected on 37 percent of its field goal tries and took a 25-23 lead into the half. Marquette shot 36 percent in the first period.

The Golden Eagles turned things around in the second frame, netting an even 60 percent of their field goal attempts, including 4-of-11 from 3-point range. Butler improved in the second half as well, connecting on 54.5 percent of its shots. Marquette outscored Butler 46-37 in the half to come back for the seven-point victory.

Marquette had the advantage in points in the paint, 36-28, and in points off turnovers, 15-8. Butler outscored Marquette at the free-throw line, 15-9.
