‘Humpty Dumpty’ triggers Palmetto man’s assault on mother

February 4, 2014

PALMETTO — A 48-year-old Palmetto man was jailed Sunday after police charged him with battery on his 68-year-old mother.

The battery was instigated by the mother calling a juvenile, “Humpty Dumpty,” according to a Palmetto Police Department report.

Thomas Barbee reportedly pushed his mother down a hallway, up against a wall and then down to the ground into a doorway. The alleged battery took place at 8:58 p.m. Sunday in the 1200 block of 23rd Avenue West, Palmetto.

The victim reportedly told police her son accused her of hitting his girlfriend’s son and yelling at him. The victim told police one of the juveniles had fallen and hit his head. When she helped him up she reportedly called him, “Humpty Dumpty.”

A verbal dispute with the juveniles ensued, which reportedly caused Barbee to assault the victim. Barbee was arrested Sunday and released from the Manatee County jail Tuesday after posting a $1,500 bond, according to the sheriff’s office website.
