Elon ready for first CAA season

The Sports NetworkFebruary 4, 2014

Elon, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Elon will kick off its 2014 season at Duke and play 12 regular-season games as the program moves into CAA Football under first-year coach Rich Skrosky.

Elon will play six home games at Rhodes Stadium.

"I am looking forward to the challenge that our 2014 schedule represents," Skrosky said on Tuesday in announcing the schedule. "The team has already been working hard to meet the challenges that lie ahead."

The Phoenix, coming off a 2-10 record in their final season in the Southern Conference, will visit Duke on Aug. 30. Duke holds a 7-0-1 lead in the series.

After a bye week, Elon will host North Carolina A& (Sept. 13) and Charlotte (Sept. 20). The Phoenix also will be at home against CAA members New Hampshire (Oct. 4), Stony Brook (Oct. 18, Homecoming), Richmond (Oct. 25) and Maine (Nov. 15).

Their other road games are against Coastal Carolina (Sept. 27) and CAA opponents Delaware (Oct. 11), Towson (Nov. 1), William & Mary (Nov. 8) and James Madison (Nov. 22).

In the CAA's unbalanced scheduling, Elon will not face Albany, Rhode Island and Villanova.
