MTI Car Show to raise money for scholars

BRADENTON -- Students and faculty from the Manatee Technical Institute Automotive Service Technology and Auto Collision and Repair programs will team with local businesses to host the second annual MTI Car Show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 9 at 6305 State Road 70 East, Bradenton.

Proceeds will help send students to the SkillsUSA National Championships.

Admission is free to the public. Sponsors will provide door prizes, and music will be provided by Lance from Lance's Cruzin' to the Hop Car Shows. Hotdogs, hamburgers, chips and soft drinks will be available for purchase.

All years, makes, and models of cars, trucks, and motorcycles are welcome to participate. Awards for best Antique/Classic, Paint Job, Engine, Stereo System and Muddiest Truck. Judging registration costs $15.

LWR Women's Club speaker is Tim Wilkins Feb. 26

The Lakewood Ranch Women's Club is holding an inaugural fundraising event for charities Hope Family Services, Sarasota Manatee Association for Riding Therapy and Solve Maternity Homes at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 26 at The Francis in Sarasota, 1289 N. Palm Ave., Sarasota.

Speaker is Tim Wilkins, author of "Laugh Your Abs Off" and an internationally recognized stand-up comedian, fitness speaker, writer and healthy TV chef. A

Doors will open 11:30 a.m., with lunch at 12:30 p.m. and the speaker at 1 p.m.

The cost is $35 for members, $40 for guests.
