Recap: UAB vs. East Carolina

Birmingham, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Paris Roberts-Campbell tallied 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists to lead the East Carolina Pirates to a 74-67 victory over the UAB Blazers in a Conference USA matchup at Bartow Arena.

Caleb White added 17 points ECU (12-10, 1-6 C-USA) at it notched its first league win of the 2013-14 campaign. Akeem Richmond contributed 13 points and six boards while Antonio Robinson handed out five assists for the Pirates, who had lost their last six games.

C.J. Washington paced the Blazers (14-7, 3-4) with 25 points and nine rebounds. Chad Frazier finished with 13 points, six assists and five boards. Rod Rucker chimed in with 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

The Pirates took a 33-27 lead into the intermission after they knocked down 6- of-8 attempts from behind the 3-point line in the opening period. UAB was limited to 38.5 percent shooting from the floor including a 3-of-11 clip from beyond the arc in the first half.

ECU opened up the second stanza on a 12-5 run that helped it increase its lead to 13 with just over 17 minutes remaining in regulation. After allowing the visitors to go in front by as many as 16, the Blazers went on a 27-11 run to narrow the deficit to a single point at 63-62 with 3:37 left in the contest. Richmond connected on a 3-point field goal try on the next possession and the Pirates sank six shots at the charity stripe over the final 1:19 to keep the hosts at bay.

Despite the loss, UAB enjoyed a 42-36 edge in the rebounding battle and outscored the Pirates, 40-28, in the paint. The Blazers went 5-of-25 from 3- point range.
