Recap: Appalachian St vs. Elon

Boone, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Lucas Troutman notched a game-high 21 points for the Elon Phoenix as they topped the Appalachian State Mountaineers, 83-76, in Southern Conference play at the Holmes Center.

Sebastian Koch was responsible for 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Ryley Beaumont and Jack Isenbarger both scored 14 points for the Phoenix (12-11, 5-3 SoCon), who have won consecutive games. Tanner Samson added 11 points.

Chris Burgess netted a team-high 19 points for the Mountaineers (6-15, 2-6), who have lost back-to-back games. Mike Neal (17 points), Tab Hamilton (15), Tommy Spagnolo (10) also scored in double figures. Michael Obacha grabbed 13 rebounds.

The Phoenix started strong, shooting 62.1 percent from the field, including 7- of-16 from 3-point range in the first half. At the other end, the Mountaineers converted 54.2 percent from the floor but the hosts trailed 45-34 at the half.

In the second half, the Mountaineers dipped slightly to 52 percent, but that included 7-of-12 from the perimeter. The Phoenix shot 47.8 percent, which was good enough to hold onto the lead, as they also got 12-of-15 from the line. Their lead was a large as 17, just over seven minutes into the half.

Elon outscored the home team 32-24 in the paint and knocked down 11 3- pointers in the victory.
