BRADENTON -- The first few months of the prep wrestling season is all about getting ready for February.

Welcome to February.

The wrestling postseason begins Saturday with district tournaments, followed by region and state meets the next two weekends.

The top four wrestlers in each class at district advance to regional, and the top four region finishers qualify for the state meet, scheduled for Feb. 14 and 15 at The Lakeland Center.

Here is a look the district meets involving local teams:

Class 3A-District 8

Where: Plant City Durant

When: First match begins at 11:30 a.m.; finals are scheduled for 5 p.m., according to FHSAA website.

Local: Manatee.

Region meet: Region 2 at Kissimme Osceola.

The scoop: The Hurricanes had a fine regular season, going 34-8 in duals to earn the No. 8 ranking in Class 3A by Scout.com. Caleb Rudisill, a sophomore, is ranked No. 1 in the state at 113 pounds, and junior Jesse Fulk is second at 160. Fulk has earned most outstanding wrestler honors at three meets this season and is looking for a second-straight state berth.

Tyrek Hoyte is ninth at 126, Dakoda Dossey is fifth at 152, and John Baldwin is 11th at 170.

Manatee is the highest-ranked team in the district, though North Port is ninth.

Class 2A-District 10

Where: Braden River.

When: First match begins at 11 a.m. and finals are scheduled for 4 p.m., according to FHSAA website.

Locals: Braden River, Lakewood Ranch, Palmetto.

Region meet: Region 3 at Punta Gorda Charlotte.

The scoop: The Tigers are hoping for a repeat in Braden River's gym, where they won the county title last week for the second time. Palmetto, which began wrestling in 2005, has never won a team district title but has finished runner-up five times. Ranked 21st in Class 2A, Palmetto boasts four seventh-ranked wrestlers: Tyler Montague (120), Anthony Viscomi (126), Chase Washington (145) and Robert McLachlan (195). Freshman Hunter Reed is the highest-ranked Mustang, coming in seventh at 106 pounds. Ty McLeod is ninth at 170, while Robert Collier is 12th at 126 pounds, and Jared Dipsiner is 14th at 138.

Class 1A-District 10

Where: Tampa Prep.

When: First match begins at noon but the finals' start time is to be decided.

Local: Southeast.

Region meet: Region 3 at Tampa Berkeley Prep.

The scoop: The Seminoles share Class 1A's No. 12 ranking with Pasco and have the third-ranked 220-pounder in Gage Takacs. Gage's brother, Kane, is fifth at heavyweight. Joey Fazio is 12th at 132, and Ricky Almodovar is seventh at 160.

Class 1A-District 11

Where: Dunedin

When: First match begins at 9:30 a.m. and finals are scheduled for 6 p.m., according to FHSAA website.

Locals: Bayshore, Saint Stephen's.

Region meet: Region 3 at Tampa Berkeley Prep.

The scoop: Bayshore's Petro Marin is 16th at 182 pounds.
