BRADENTON -- Officials with the Bradenton Police Department say a man arrested by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office on Thursday and charged with grand theft auto is also the suspect in five thefts from Bradenton cell phone stores.

Donald C. Zes, 41, of Sarasota, was arrested Thursday after a deputy noticed he was driving a stolen vehicle, according to a Bradenton Police Department report.

Zes was in the Manatee County jail Friday held in lieu of $8,000 in bond on charges of grand theft, the report states.

On Jan. 29, Zes walked into the Verizon Wireless store at 6781 Manatee Ave. W. and told an employee he wanted to buy a Galaxy tablet and an Apple iPhone 5s, according to the report.

When the employee put the items on the counter, Zes grabbed the items and ran out of the store, the report states.

The employee was able to get a tag number off the get-away vehicle, which was the same white truck Zes was driving Thursday, the report states.

On Thursday, Zes was discovered in the white Dodge pickup truck traveling east on Flamingo Boulevard, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office report.
