Recap: Southern Utah vs. Montana

Cedar City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Kareem Jamar erupted for a game-high 25 points as the Montana Grizzlies dismissed the Thunderbirds of Southern Utah, 69-61, in Big Sky Conference play at Centrum Arena.

Jamar shot 3-of-4 behind the 3-point line and also handed out five assists for Montana (9-9, 4-5 Big Sky) as the team won for the second time in the last three outings. Jordan Gregory pitched in with 15 points, Keron DeShields 12 and Mario Dunn 11 points in the victory.

The Thunderbirds (1-17, 0-9), losers of 17 straight since defeating Arizona Christian in the season opener, were led by Trey Kennedy with 17 points and five assists, but he was also charged with six turnovers. Before fouling out, Casey Oliverson pitched in with 14 points and seven boards.

Montana shot a dismal 7-of-22 from the floor in the first half, including 2- of-9 behind the 3-point line, as the squad went into the break trailing by three, 25-22.

Unfortunately for SUU, the Grizzlies turned it around in the second half with a sizzling 65.0 percent accuracy from the floor, including 5-of-7 on the perimeter, leading to the eight-point road win.

In a game that featured 11 ties and 15 lead changes, Montana turned 14 miscues by the Thunderbirds into 15 points.

Southern Utah has not defeated another Division I foe since taking out Cal State Northridge, 73-72, on February 23, 2013.
