Recap: Marquette vs. Providence

Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Davante Gardner scored 14 points off the bench as the Marquette Golden Eagles held on for a 61-50 victory over the Providence Friars in a Big East conflict at the Bradley Center.

Jamil Wilson chipped in 11 points for Marquette (12-9, 4-4 Big East), which had lost two of its previous three.

Bryce Cotton finished with a game-high 20 points for Providence (15-6, 5-3), which had a five-game winning streak snapped. LaDontae Henton added 18 points and Tyler Harris collected 11 rebounds, but went just 1-of-10 from the floor.

Marquette only shot 38.5 percent from the field in the first half, but it held Providence to five field goals and led 31-14 at the break.

Although the Friars improved to 46.7 percent shooting in the second period, the Golden Eagles hit 10-of-14 free-throw attempts down the stretch to hold them off.

Providence lost despite a 40-37 edge on the boards. Marquette forced 15 turnovers.
