Elon, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Lucas Troutman notched a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double as the Elon Phoenix easily defeated the Western Carolina Catamounts, 74-60, in a Southern Conference tilt at Alumni Gym.
Tanner Samson netted 15 points for Elon (11-11, 4-3 SoCon). Sebastian Koch had 13, Kevin Blake scored 12 and Jack Isenbarger chipped in 11 in the win. The victory snaps a three-game losing streak for the Phoenix.
Brandon Boggs scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Western Carolina (12-11, 5-3). James Sinclair added 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting in the loss. The Catamounts have lost three of their last four games.
Elon came out firing in the first half, netting 54.5 percent of its shots from the floor, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range. The Phoenix took a 35-20 lead into the intermission. Western Carolina connected on just 34.6 percent of its shots in the first frame.
The Phoenix didn't slow down in the second half, hitting 51.9 percent of their field goal attempts to the Catamounts' 44.4 percent from the field. Half of Western Carolina's 16 makes in the second period came from 3-point distance.
The Catamounts didn't attempt a single free throw in the game, while Elon hit 13 from the charity stripe. The Phoenix had the edge in points in the paint, 30-14, and in points off turnovers, 24-12.
