FHP: Hit-and-run driver hurts bicyclist, 73, in Cortez

MANATEE -- Florida Highway Patrol is looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck a bicyclist in Cortez on Thursday afternoon.

About 2:15 p.m., the bicyclist, 73, was traveling west on the southern sidewalk of the 12100 block of Cortez Road West, when he was hit by a car pulling out of a driveway, FHP said in a news release.

The car's driver left the scene, FHP said.

The bicyclist, who is from Idaho, was taken to Blake Medical Center with minor injuries, FHP said.

The hit-and-run vehicle was described as an older model passenger car, possibly a Cadillac. The driver was described as being in his 20s.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has information about the car and/or driver can call FHP at 239-938-1800.
