St. Petersburg ousts Manatee girls
The St. Petersburg girls basketball team defeated Manatee for the third time this season, ousting the visiting Hurricanes from the Class 8A-District 8 tournament with a 74-38 victory Wednesday night.
Lazasha Baskins led the Green Devils (21-5) with 19 points. St. Petersburg will meet Palm Harbor University on Friday in the district title game.
STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA 67, HILLSBOROUGH COMMUNITY COLLEGE 66 (OT) -- Deonte Hearns turned in 20 points and 20 rebounds and knocked down a pair of free throws with 15.4 seconds left in overtime to lift the visiting Manatees (4-20, 1-3) to their first Suncoast Conference victory.
Larry Keys and Gabriel Dos Santos each scored 13 points for SCF.
SAINT STEPHEN'S 54, SPRING HILL BISHOP McLAUGHLIN 46 -- Freshman Jordon Murrell scored all 18 of his points after halftime, and the host Falcons went on a 31-7 run to finish the game and beat the Hurricanes.
Saint Stephen's (8-12) trailed by 16 points in the middle of the third quarter when the run began. Omar Sammour added 11 points and 14 rebounds, and Garret Barnes added a spark off the bench, scoring six points.
CARDINAL MOONEY 71, BOOKER 64 -- Ryan McMahon poured in 26 points, and Matt Hueston turned in a double-double as the visiting Cougars moved to 14-8.
Hueston recorded 10 points and 13 rebounds, and Mitch Arimura had seven points and nine rebounds. Nick Peacock contributed eight points.
Andre Johnson knocked in 30 points for the Tornadoes.
