Gordon, Leunk carry Panthers to close win

Eighth-grader Damien Gordon scored 14 of his career-high 19 points in the fourth quarter, and Ryan Leunk turned in a double-double as the Bradenton Christian boys basketball team claimed a 76-74 victory over visiting Seffner Christian on Tuesday.

Leunk scored 28 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for the Panthers (12-8). Jake Lister had 16 points, and Coleman Barber had nine points and 12 assists for BCS.

PALMETTO 52, BRADEN RIVER 45 -- The visiting Tigers claimed a Class 7A-District 10 victory behind 18 points from Jarrid Rhodes and 16 from Tre Clark.

Terry Collins chipped in with eight points and eight boards for Palmetto.

The Pirates (10-12, 2-6) got 14 points from Zechariah Kendall and nine apiece from Matt Landsdowne and Isaiah Garrett.

SAINT STEPHEN'S 73, ST. PETERSBURG CANTERBURY 60 -- Omar Sammour scored 26 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead the visiting Falcons (7-12) past the Crusaders.

Bobby Harrison knocked in 19 points, and Sid Price had 14 points and four assists and hit a 70-footer at the first-quarter buzzer.

MANATEE 51, LAKEWOOD RANCH 40 (OT) -- Jordan Pompey scored 11 points to lead the host Hurricanes past the Mustangs on Monday night.


BAYSHORE 13, ARCADIA DESOTO 1 -- The Bruins opened the preseason with a roar, getting a complete game and 11 strikeouts from freshman pitcher Miriam Schmoll and two-run home runs from Lashara James and Susie Blue. James had three hits, while Schmoll and Blue had two hits apiece.
