Gunman pistol whips man during mugging in Bradenton

MANATEE -- A man was pistol-whipped and robbed during a mugging early Monday in Bradenton, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 12:20 a.m., the victim and a friend were standing in the 6200 block of 12th Street East, when two gunmen approached, according to a news release.

One of the assailants pointed his gun at the victim's head and pulled the trigger twice but it only clicked. He then demanded the victim's money, the sheriff's office said.

The victim handed over his wallet, and the suspect then hit the victim about the head with the gun. The suspects then fled, according to the report.

The first gunman was described as being between 25 and 30 years old, standing 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans, a black T-shirt and long dreadlocks.

The second suspect was described as being between 25 and 30 years old , standing 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans, a dark T-shirt and a black baseball cap.

The report did not include a description of the suspects' race.
