SARASOTA -- A Bradenton man is facing weapons and drug charges after he was arrested during a traffic stop in Sarasota, according to Sarasota police.

About 3:15 a.m. Jan. 21, officers stopped a car Martin, 21, was driving at the intersection of 24th Street and Paladelia Avenue.

"When officers approached the car, Martin exited the car and tried to walk away," police said in a news release. "Officers told Martin to return to the car and while he was walking back, officers smelled an odor of marijuana."

Martin told officers he pulled over right away because he did not want to return to jail, according to police.

During a search of the car, officers found a loaded .45-caliber handgun under the driver's seat, ammunition, a baggie of marijuana, several pieces of rock cocaine and cash.

Martin faces charges of possession of a concealed firearm, possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana. He was released from the Sarasota County jail after posting bonds totaling $3,500.
