Pocatello, ID (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Hansen scored 28 points and pulled down eight rebounds as the Idaho State Bengals captured a 69-64 win over the Montana State Bobcats in Big Sky Conference play at Reed Gym.
Also having a strong offensive outing for the Bengals (7-10, 4-4 Big Sky) was Andre Hatchett with 20 points, while Tomas Sanchez pitched in with 12 before fouling out. With the victory Idaho State snapped a two-game slide.
The Bobcats (9-10, 4-4), losers of three in a row and four of five, were paced by Marcus Colbert who tallied 23 points, grabbed six rebounds and handed out five assists, followed by Calen Coleman with 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting behind the 3-point line. Flavien Davis came up a rebound shy of a double- double with his 10-point effort.
Both teams had a lot of trouble finding the basket in the first half as the Bengals converted 29.6 percent from the field and the visitors a mere 27.6 percent. However, thanks to a 9-2 edge at the free-throw line, it was ISU with the 27-23 advantage at the break.
In the second half both teams picked up the pace from the floor, but it was a 17-8 edge at the charity stripe that kept the Bengals in control and en route to the home win.
In addition to holding a huge advantage at the stripe, the Bengals also won the battle of the boards, 42-35.
