Greeley, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Derrick Barden registered a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds as the Northern Colorado Bears posted a 72-62 win over the Sacramento State Hornets in Big Sky Conference play at Butler- Hancock Sports Pavilion.
Tim Huskisson accounted for a team-best 18 points and Jordan Wilson 11 for the Bears (12-4, 6-1 Big Sky) as they picked up their third straight win and the seventh in the last eight outings.
Sacramento State (6-10, 2-5) was paced by Mikh McKinney and Cody Demps with 16 points apiece, followed by Dylan Garrity with 14 before fouling out. With the setback the Hornets have now dropped two straight and three of the last four.
The visitors shot an impressive 54.2 percent from the field in the first half, but still Sacramento State trailed by three at the break, 37-34.
In the second half the Bears increased their lead to double digits, even as they converted only 16.7 percent behind the 3-point line in the frame.
UNC produced a convincing 37-20 advantage in the rebounding department and also outscored the Hornets by a huge 26-10 margin at the free-throw line as well.
