Man with warrant for arrest caught walking in Bradenton

HERALD STAFF REPORTJanuary 25, 2014

BRADENTON -- Bradenton police and the Manatee County Sheriff's Office teamed up Saturday to capture a man who had a warrant out for his arrest on a probation violation and was spotted walking around town.

Sheriff's deputies spotted a man later identified as Demetrius Savage walking southbound in the 100 block of First Street and recognized him as a man their agency had been notified about as possibly having federal warrants on him, according to a news release.

Deputies contacted Bradenton police dispatch, and when officers arrived on scene the man took off running west, where he was apprehended in the Riverwalk medical complex, the release states.

It was later confirmed the man had a warrant out for his arrest by the U.S. Marshal Service for violation of probation on an original charge of possession of cocaine, officials said.

Savage was transported to Manatee County jail and was to be extradited to Tampa.
