Church to honor the Rev. Gary and Karen Batey with banquet after his retirement

ANNA MARIA -- Roser Church is honoring the Rev. Gary and Karen Batey for his retirement.

Gary Batey, who started at Roser in January 2000, announced his retirement last spring. His final Sunday as senior pastor June 30 was marked with a special luncheon.

Since so many of the Anna Maria Island community had returned to northern homes by then church officials postponed his official retirement recognition until 6 p.m. Feb. 8.

The retirement banquet will be at the Anna Maria Island Community Center at $25 per guest. RSVP no later than Feb. 2 with a check to Roser Community Church or go to roserchurch.com to donate online noting the number in your party.

Include in your donation and funds for a gift of appreciation to be presented to Batey at the banquet.

In addition, the church is compiling a book of memories from his time of service to Roser church. Church members are encouraged to write a message telling how the pastor might have helped in your time of need such as planning a funeral, baptism, wedding or during an illness. Or share how his sense of humor was appreciated during his sermons, Bible studies or other church meetings. These messages will be placed in the book for the Bateys.

If you have a more personal message, feel free to send it to Batey at Roser Church, P.O. Box 247, Anna Maria FL 34216, marked for Sherry Oehler or go to roserchurch.com and launch form to submit your message online.

Roser Church is near the Anna Maria City Pier, 512 Pine Ave.
