Spokane, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Sam Dower Jr. notched a double-double on 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Gonzaga Bulldogs escaped with a 59-56 win over the San Diego Toreros in a West Coast Conference bout at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

Przemek Karnowski scored 12 points for the Bulldogs (17-3, 7-1 WCC), who have won seven of their last eight games. Kevin Pangos and Kyle Dranginis added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Johnny Dee netted a game-high 26 points for the Toreros (11-10, 2-6), who have lost three of their last four. Dennis Kramer was the team's only other double- digit scorer with 10 points.

The Bulldogs shot a confident 50 percent from the field in the opening half. The Toreros, in turn, shot 40 percent, while sinking 7-of-7 at the free-throw line, and they trailed 33-29 at the break.

In the second half, Gonzaga shot 46.2 percent from the floor, slightly better than San Diego's 42.9 percent. With 1:27 left, a Pangos layup put the Bulldogs up by three points, and the Toreros failed to get another basket, missing two 3-pointers inside the final minute which could have tied the game. Despite getting the game tied once, with 5:55 remaining, the Toreros never took the lead in the latter half.

The Toreros made it a close game with a 14-of-15 free-throw shooting performance, but couldn't get the shots to fall from the field when it mattered most.
