Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Taylor registered 18 points and eight rebounds as the Marshall Thundering Herd easily beat the Rice Owls, 73-63, in a Conference USA contest at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Kareem Canty tallied 18 points and seven assists for the Thundering Herd (7-13, 1-4 C-USA), who snapped a four-game losing skid.
Sean Obi had a double-double with 22 points and 17 rebounds for the Owls (5-13, 0-5), who lost their eighth straight decision. Max Guercy and Marcus Jackson scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively, the former adding five assists before fouling out.
Marshall made 40 percent of its shots from the floor in the first half as it took a 33-22 lead into intermission. Rice shot just 37.5 percent on field goal attempts, including 2-of-11 from 3-point range.
The Owls took 17 more shot attempts than the Herd in the second period but were unable to close the gap. Marshall pulled away for good when, with 14:30 left, it went on a 13-2 run that increased the lead to 14.
Marshall's bench outscored Rice's reserves 30-4.
