Charleston, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Kobani and Tab Hamilton both tallied 18 points as the Appalachian State Mountaineers captured an 80-67 win over The Citadel Bulldogs in a Southern Conference clash at McAlister Field House.
Also scoring in double figures for the Mountaineers (6-13, 2-4 SoCon) were Mike Neal and Frank Eaves with 13 and 12 points, respectively, as the team won for the second time in as many games.
Still the only team in the conference without a league victory, The Citadel (4-17, 0-6) was paced by Matt Van Scyoc with a game-high 24 points, although he shot just 2-of-9 behind the 3-point line. Ashton Moore pitched in with 18 points and six assists, followed by Quinton Marshall and Brian White with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
The Citadel led by as many as six points early in the first half, the team finishing the period with 52.0 percent accuracy from the floor, but the Bulldogs still trailed at the break, 40-32. The Mountaineers shot the ball at a 51.5 percent clip over the first 20 minutes of action.
In the second half ASU connected on 60.7 percent from the floor, including 4- of-8 behind the 3-point line, in order to take the double-digit road win.
The visitors won the battle of the boards, 31-24, limiting the Bulldogs to just four offensive rebounds, and also outscored the hosts in the paint as well, 42-24.
The Bulldogs have dropped nine straight decisions and have not defeated another Division I foe since Nov. 12 when they topped Presbyterian.
