MANATEE -- The Manatee County School Board is hosting its second community engagement forum tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Manatee High School.

An hour-long open public question and answer session is scheduled. This forum comes shortly after the Manatee County School District's meeting with state legislators in Tallahassee, where representatives voiced their concern for the 33 findings in the district's auditor general report.

The Manatee County School District faces nearly $10 million in fines if it cannot meet its action plans submitted to the state last month.

Superintendent Rick Mills will present an update of the district's strategic plan, and director of capital projects Jane Dreger will give a brief presentation on school safety.

According to the agenda, which was sent out in a press release Wednesday morning, the majority of the forum will be open for public comment and questions.

The forum will be held in the media center at Manatee High School.

Erica Earl, education reporter, can be reached at 941-745-7081.
