Ranch upsets

Venice in

soccer semi

Ben Wilson's hat trick and Ryan Sollazzo's brace set the stage for the Lakewood Ranch's 6-1 upset of host Venice in a Class 4A-District 11 boys soccer semifinal Tuesday. Reece Riggins added a 40-yard goal off a free kick to round out the scoring. Liam Bramley tallied roughly 15 saves as the No. 4-seeded Mustangs knocked off top-seeded Venice.

"We're peaking at the right time," Lakewood Ranch head coach Vito Bavaro said. "Healthy for the first time all year."

Ranch next goes to the district championship game Friday, where the Mustangs will look to defend their crown from last year.

"Tough road, but (we're) hitting on all cylinders," Bavaro said. The Mustangs improved to 10-7-6 by turning a 3-1 halftime lead into a second-half rout. "A lot of fun to watch."
