Sarasota police release video showing theft of vehicle

SARASOTA, Fla. -- January 21, 2014 -- 2:30 p.m. On December 18, 2013 at about 1:05 a.m., a woman contacted the Sarasota Police Department in regards to her husband's vehicle, a gold 2001 Ford Expedition, being broken down on the side of the road. The woman was able to park it and officers assisted her in pushing into the Shell gas station at 300 North Washington Boulevard. At about 8 p.m., the woman attempted to retrieve the vehicle but found it was no longer at the Shell gas station. The woman called several tow companies and found out the vehicle had not been towed by any of the places she called. Our detectives contacted Direct Towing who advised they did not tow the vehicle and they are the tow company who would have been responsible for tows in the location of the Shell gas station. On surveillance video, you can see a truck with a tow truck hitch device, lights on the wheel well, back into the gas station, hook up the Expedition and then drive out of the Shell gas station parking lot. SARASOTA -- Sarasota police on Tuesday released surveillance video of what it says of someone stealing a vehicle left at a gas station.

About 1:05 a.m. Dec. 18, a woman reported that her husband's gold 2001 Ford Expedition had broken down on the side of the road. The woman was able to park it, and officers helped push it to a Shell gas station at 300 N. Washington Blvd., police said. man was able to park it and officers assisted her in pushing into the Shell gas station at 300 North Washington Boulevard.

"At about 8 p.m., the woman attempted to retrieve the vehicle but found it was no longer at the Shell gas station. The woman called several tow companies and found out the vehicle had not been towed by any of the places she called. Our detectives contacted Direct Towing who advised they did not tow the vehicle and they are the tow company who would have been responsible for tows in the location of the Shell gas station.
