Palmetto and Saint Stephen's are the only boys soccer teams to earn top seeds for district tournament action this week.

And the Tigers (17-2-1) proved they are the area's best team after they blasted the Falcons 8-1 in a regular-season meeting Jan. 10.

Here's how the districts stack up:

Class 5A-District 8

Manatee is the lone area team, and the Hurricanes are the No. 3 seed in the four-team district. That means a road match at St. Petersburg High in Wednesday's semifinal.

A victory earns the Canes a region tournament appearance, while a loss ends the season. The winner heads to Friday's championship game, most likely at No. 1-seeded Riverview.

Class 4A-District 10

Palmetto is the only local club in the mix, and the Tigers received a bye into Wednesday's semifinal. The Tigers' closest scare against district competition came in mid-December against Clearwater, and they won 3-2.

Palmetto could face Clearwater in a rematch in Wednesday's semifinal if the Tornadoes can defeat Seminole Osceola in Tuesday's quarterfinal round.

The Tigers, though, are brimming with confidence after an unbeaten January leading into the district tournament and should breeze to Friday's final.Class 4A-District 11

This is an intriguing district featuring Lakewood Ranch and Braden River. The Mustangs and Pirates host openers Monday, but they aren't locks to advance.

Ranch hosts Port Charlotte, while Braden River takes on Sarasota.

Port Charlotte drew with the Mustangs 1-1 in the reg

ular-season encounter in November.

And Braden River was recently beaten by the Sailors 1-0 in a makeup game.

Should either progress, the road gets tougher as the Mustangs would travel to No. 1-seeded Venice, and the Pirates would most likely have to head to No. 2-seeded North Port.

Class 3A-District 9

This is a tournament held at one venue: Tampa Jesuit, which also is the top seed. The two local clubs, Bayshore and Southeast, are pitted against one another in Tuesday's quarterfinals.

The winner plays the winner of Tampa Middleton and Tampa Robinson in Wednesday's semifinal at 6 p.m.

Class 2A-District 11

Booker are hosts the entire tournament, which features No. 2-seeded Cardinal Mooney.

The Cougars play the hosts at 5 p.m. in Tuesday's semifinal.

The winner advances to Thursday's final to play either Sarasota Military Academy or No. 1-seeded Arcadia DeSoto.

Class 1A-District 7

Saint Stephen's hosts the tournament and is the top seed. Tuesday's play-in game is between North Port Imagine School and Bradenton Christian. The winner gets the Falcons in Thursday's semifinal.

The other semifinal is between Out-of-Door Academy and Sarasota Christian.

Thursday's winners return to Saint Stephen's on Friday for the final. The winner earns a home region game, while the loser travels for the region quarterfinal.
