Seminolesblanked 6-0in 3A-9 final

Caroline King scored two goals, and top-seeded Tampa Robinson kept the Southeast girls soccer team from making a shot on goal Saturday as the host Knights claimed the Class 3A-District 9 championship with a 6-0 victory. Despite the defeat, Southeast (12-4) advances to the Region 3 quarterfinal and will visit Largo at 7 p.m. Thursday.

SOUTHEAST 48, NORTH PORT 31 -- The Seminoles won their 19th straight game by whipping the visiting Bobcats. Keshawna Robinson scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Southeast (22-1). Bevin Mays added 10 points, DeAngela Mathis had nine, and Breyonna Reed scored eight.

• The Southeast junior varsity team moved to 16-1 with a 43-30 victory over North Port. Zikyria Cheaves had nine points, and Marlene Valcin pulled down 22 rebounds.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 32, TAMPA CAMBRIDGE 25 -- The Panthers (8-12) got the road win behind 17 points from Sophie Giardina and 15 rebounds from Katie Swaagman.

Juco basketball

STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA 81, SANTA FE 78 -- The Manatees placed five players in double figures and knocked off the state's fifth-ranked team.

Deonte Hearns led the way with 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Laquon Kirce had 14 points and 10 assists for SCF (3-18). Braden River's Tre Bryant added 12 points, Larry Keys had 11 and Nathaniel Johnson pitched in with 10.

Boys basketball

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 66, TAMPA CAMBRIDGE 51 -- Ryan Leunk led the way with 23 points as the visiting Panthers (10-6) pounced on the Lancers. Jake Lister added 11 points, and Coleman Barber had 15 rebounds.

TAMPA SICKLES 47, CARDINAL MOONEY 35 -- Ryan McMahon scored 13 points, but the Cougars fell in the Wally Keller Classic hosted by Punta Gorda Charlotte.

Blair Perry added six points, and Matt Hueston had five rebounds for Cardinal Mooney (11-8).


IPPOLITO TOURNAMENT -- Two Palmetto wrestlers placed at the tournament held at Brandon High. Anthony Viscomi took fourth place in the 126-pound class. At 145 pounds, Chase Washington placed fifth. As a team, the Tigers were 18th out of 38 teams.

SEBRING MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT -- Hunter Reed (106 pounds) and Jared Dipsiner (138) won their weight classes to lead Lakewood Ranch to third place in the 21-team tournament.

Other Mustangs to place included Dyland Cameron (120, third), Robert Collier (126, third), Zach Benghuzzi (160, third), Warren Torrex (145, fourth) and Jimmy Strumpf (heavyweight, fourth).
