Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Sam Dower registered a double-double with 28 points and 14 rebounds to lift the Gonzaga Bulldogs to an 82-72 decision over the Loyola Marymount Lions in West Coast Conference action at Gersten Pavilion.
Drew Barnham added 16 points for Gonzaga (16-2, 6-1 WCC), which also received 11 points from Gerard Coleman. Kevin Pangos went just 1-of-11 from the field and missed all six of his 3-point field goal attempts, but made his mark by dealing out six of the Bulldogs' 18 assists.
LMU (10-10, 2-6) was led by Evan Payne, who netted 19 points but also committed five of the team's 12 turnovers. Anthony Ireland tallied 13 points and was just one assist shy of a double-double. C.J. Blackwell also scored 13 points while Alex Osborne posted nine points and 11 boards.
Gonzaga knocked down 51.4 percent of its shots from the floor in the opening period en route to a 42-33 halftime lead. The Lions were limited to just 3- of-9 efficiency from 3-point range in the first half.
LMU connected on 44.1 percent of its field goal tries including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc in the second stanza. The Bulldogs managed to protect their advantage by shooting 56 percent from the field and converting 8-of-10 attempts at the charity stripe after the break.
Gonzaga dominated on the interior as it outscored the Lions, 50-34, in the paint and held a 41-31 edge in total rebounds.
