Broderick Furlow, unarmed robbery, great bodily harm/disability/disfigurement, no bond

A man was jailed after he allegedly punched a woman in the face repeatedly during a robbery attempt, Bradenton Police said.

Officers responded to a fight in progress involving a man and woman behind a convenience store at 1718 14th St. W. around 3:06 a.m. Saturday, according to a police report.

When they got there, they found the woman, who had suffered facial fractures and a broken jaw.

Officers in the area then found a man matching a description they were looking for, and witnesses were able to positively identify him.

The woman was taken to Blake Medical Center for treatment. There, she told authorities in an interview the suspect attempted to rob her and when she resisted, he punched her in the face over and over.

The suspect, identified as Broderick Furlow, 27, was charged with attempted robbery and aggravated battery. He remained in custody Saturday evening and was being held without bond, police said.

The victim had been downgraded to stable condition and remained hospitalized, according to police.
