Barber nets31 to carryBCS to win

Senior Coleman Barber scored 31 points, nailing seven three-pointers, as the visiting Bradenton Christian Panthers pounded the Saint Stephen's Falcons 71-31 in Class 3A-District 10 boys basketball contest.

Vincent Rehfeldt added 13 points, Jake Lister had 10, and Ryan Leunk 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Panthers (9-6, 4-2), who earned a No. 2 seed for the upcoming district tournament.

Omar Sammour scored 16 points to lead the Falcons.

CARDINAL MOONEY 69, OUT-OF-ACADEMY 21 -- Matt Hueston scored 10 points, Jared Aabel had nine, and Nolan Moss added eight to lead the visiting Cougars over the Thunder in a Class 3A-District 10 contest.

Justin Najmy added seven assists, and Blair Perry had four assists for the Cougars (11-1), the district tourney's top seed.

Amad Brayboy led the Thunder with 12 points.

Girls basketball

PALM HARBOR UNIVERSITY 62, MANATEE 44 -- Palm Harbour University beat host Manatee in Manatee's last district game. Leading scorers for Manatee included Jacqui Armer with 13 points, 14 rebounds, 6 steals. Manatee's record is 7-12.

PALMETTO 56, BAYSHORE 29 -- The host Tigers (18-8) rolled behind 23 points from Jermisha Collins and 14 from Jasmin Garibay to knock off the Bruins.

ST. PETERSBURG 48, LAKEWOOD RANCH 35 -- The Green Devils won in the MLK Tournament despite 19 points and 12 rebounds from LaDazhia Williams of the Mustangs (17-5).

Wrestling

IPPOLITO TOURNAMENT -- Manatee will have four wrestlers in the championship semifinals when action resumes 10 a.m. Saturday at Brandon.

Caleb Rudisill (113 pounds), Dakoda Dossey (152), Jesse Fulk (160) and John Baldwin (170) all advanced to the final four for Manatee.

Palmetto's Anthony Viscomi (126) is a semfinalist, as well.

Boys soccer

MANATEE 3, SOUTHEAST 0 -- Luis Garcia scored twice and had an assist for the Hurricanes in a win over the visiting Seminoles.

Nick Petival scored a goal, and Santiago Cruz had an assist for Manatee (9-8-2). Matt Marshall had four saves.

PALMETTO 3, BRADEN RIVER 1 -- The host Tigers closed out the regular season with a win on Senior Night.

Seniors Gregorio Calvillo, Jevis Paniagua and Usiel Martinez scored for Palmetto (18-2-1), while Ronaldo Marcelo and Martinez added assists.
