Eastern Washington, Northern Iowa to renew series

The Sports NetworkJanuary 17, 2014

(SportsNetwork.com) - FCS national powers Eastern Washington and Northern Iowa announced a two-year series for 2015 and 2016 on Friday.

The first meeting will be played Sept. 12, 2015 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. The second matchup will be held Sept. 17, 2016 at Roos Field in Cheney, Wash.

"We look forward to a tremendous two-game series with a perennial FCS contender in Northern Iowa," EWU athletic director Bill Chaves said. "Scheduling is always challenging, but the willingness of both schools to play should be a benefit to FCS as a whole."

Northern Iowa has won the five series meetings - all in Cedar Falls - including playoff appearances in 1985, 1992 and 2005.

The two programs are among the most successful in the FCS. UNI has appeared in the playoffs 16 times and tallied 19 wins, while EWU has made 10 playoff appearances with 13 wins and a national championship in 2010.
