Bradenton Opera Guild: The group meets for a prelude to Sarasota Opera's fall season production of "The Flying Dutchman," 9:30 Jan. 17 at Westminster Shores Assembly Room, 1700 Third Ave. W., Bradenton. Bradenton Unit of Parliamentarians: The group meets 2-4 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Manatee County Central Library, 1301 Barcarrota Blvd. W., Bradenton. Registered Parliamentarian and Florida State President Shirley Brodbeck will present "Debate, Debate, Debate... how to weigh the vote your way," followed by Q&A and discussion. Manatee River Orchid Society: The group meets at 7 p.m. Jan. 20 and every third Monday of each month at Water's Edge of Bradenton, 3132 21st Lane W., Bradenton. Program: discussion of preparation for the Annual Show at the Bradenton Area Convention Center. Information: 941-723-1356.

Bradenton Woman's Club: The group meets 7 p.m. Jan. 20 and every third Monday through April at 1705 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton. Organized in 1913, a service club to the community, the Bradenton Woman's Club is open to new memebership. Information: 941-896-6541.

The group promotes education and quality workmanship in the fine needle arts including smocking, heirloom sewing, fine machine sewing, fine hand sewing, embroidery and the related needle arts. Swiss-American Club: The group meets at 6 p.m. Jan. 30 and every last Thursday of the month at Saltwater Cafe, 1071 N. Tamiami Trail, Nokomis, for a social gathering called "Stammtisch," where friends meet for a bite to eat and chat about their life experiences. They celebrate typical Swiss events such as Swiss Independence Day on Aug. 1 and enjoy bi-monthly picnics at Oscar Scherer State Park and various other events such as dinners/lunches on specific dates throughout the year.
