Hattiesburg, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Michael Craig had 16 points and seven rebounds as the Southern Miss Golden Eagles handedly beat the Rice Owls, 84-62, in a Conference USA matchup at Reed Green Coliseum.
Aaron Brown registered 15 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Eagles (15-3, 2-1 C-USA), who have won six of their last seven contests. Neil Watson tallied 12 points and six assists, and Chip Armelin and Daveon Boardingham each had 10 points.
Max Guercy paced the Owls (5-11, 0-3) with 15 points. Austin Ramljak added 14 points and Sean Obi had five boards. Rice extended its losing streak to six games.
Southern Miss shot 44 percent from the floor in the first half and led 34-28 going into the half. The Owls made 40.7 percent of their field goal attempts in the half, including 6-of-18 from beyond the arc.
The Golden Eagles were on fire in the second period, draining 58.6 percent of their field goal tries, including 9-of-13 from 3-point range, which allowed them to coast to the win. Southern Miss had a 14-3 run to close out the game.
Southern Miss dominated on the glass, holding a 43-20 rebounding advantage, and made 18 free-throw attempts to Rice's two.
