Manatee Planning Commission approves rezoning land SWFMD wants to sell

January 16, 2014

MANATEE -- A plan by the Southwest Florida Water Management District to sell 6.9 acres of publicly-owned land as surplus took a step forward Thursday.

The Manatee County Planning Commission tentatively OK'd the water management district's request for a future land use map amendment.

If the plan receives final approval, it would change the parcel near Frog Creek from "conservation" to "mixed use" status.

The land at the intersection of Interstate 275 and U.S. 41 is a portion of a larger, 127-acre site the water district bought with state Florida Forever conservation funds, with the intention of restoration.

A final decision on the matter will be made by the Manatee County Commission.
