BRADENTON — A 27-year-old man has been charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and possession of a controlled substance.

Keith Vinson Lewis reportedly pushed an officer with the Bradenton Police Department during an investigation that ended with Lewis being Tasered.

Lewis was reportedly found in possession of a controlled substance at 2:12 a.m. Tuesday in the 4800 block of 51st Street West, Bradenton.

An officer came upon Lewis and two other men in a vehicle while on foot patrol. The officer reportedly smelled marijuana in the vehicle and asked Lewis to step out. When Lewis did, two white Oxycodone pills reportedly fell from Lewis’ lap to the ground.

The officer then asked Lewis for identification.

Lewis reportedly said “No,” and took off on foot through a parking lot, according to the report.

The officer caught up with Lewis but could not gain control. A Taser was used to subdue Lewis.

Lewis remained in the Manatee County jail Tuesday on bonds totaling $17,500, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office website.
