BRADENTON -- A 27-year-old man has been charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and possession of a controlled substance.

Keith Vinson Lewis pushed an officer with the Bradenton Police Department during an investigation that ended with Lewis being tasered, according to a Bradenton Police Department report.

Lewis was found to be in possession of a controlled substance at 2:12 a.m. Tuesday in the 4800 block of 51st Street West, Bradenton, the report states.

An officer came upon Lewis and two other men in a vehicle while on foot patrol.

The officer smelled marijuana in the vehicle and asked Lewis to step out. When Lewis did, two white pills, later identified as Oxycodone, fell from Lewis' lap to the ground, the report states.

The officer then asked Lewis for identification.

Lewis reportedly said "No," and took off on foot through a parking lot, according to the report.

The officer caught up with Lewis but could not gain control due to Lewis pushing him away, the report states.

A taser was used to subdue Lewis, the report concludes.

Lewis remained in the Manatee County jail Tuesday on bonds totaling $17,500 according to the sheriff's office website.
