Police: Man threw toddler off Kissimmee hotel balcony before jumping

January 14, 2014

KISSIMMEE -- A man is being charged with attempted murder in Osceola County after Kissimmee police said he threw a 2-year-old boy off a second-story hotel balcony before jumping off, himself.

Police said they responded around 12:30 a.m. to the Budget Inn on the 300 block of East Vine Street, where they found Juan Pablo Maradiaga, 41, and the 2-year-old lying on the ground in the hotel's parking lot.

Both were flown to unspecified hospitals, where they were said to be in critical but stable condition Tuesday morning.

Investigators said they learned Maradiaga intentionally threw the toddler from a balcony before jumping. Police said Maradiaga would be transported to the Osceola County Jail once he is discharged from the hospital.

Kissimmee police said they are working with the Florida Department of Children and Families on this case.
