Prep wrestling | Viscomi, Washington perfect for Palmetto at Tiger Duals

Special to the HeraldJanuary 12, 2014

PALMETTO -- Brandon dominated the final day at the eighth annual Tiger Duals held Saturday at Palmetto High.

The Eagles, who were the top seed in their pool, took down North Port 55-12 for the championship.

Host Palmetto took home eighth place, but head coach Bryan Wilkes said he felt that it was a great learning experience. "I think our kids really did well, they had the ability to compete with different wrestlers and develop confidence for districts," Wilkes said.

The Tigers defeated Southeast 42-31 to claim the eighth spot. The two teams competed Friday night in a Senior Night dual at Palmetto with the Tigers claiming a 42-21 victory.

Senior Anthony Viscomi (126 pounds) finished the Tiger Duals at 5-0 and was excited about his performance.

"I've gotten much better over the past four years, and today was just another building block," Viscomi said.

Teammate Chase Washington (145 pounds) also finished 5-0 on the day.

"The tournament was a total success, and I'm proud to be a part of it," Wilkes said.

North Port came in second place as Charlotte finished third. Lakewood Ranch took sixth place.

Hunter Reed (106), Dylan Cameron (126) and Jared Dipsiner (138) all went 4-1 for the Mustangs.

All three lost to Brandon opponents.

Lakewood Ranch went 2-1 in its pool and lost to Hillsborugh in the fifth-place match.

"I'm absolutely pleased with how we came out today," Lakewood Ranch head coach Pat Ancil said. "The kids grinded it out and wrestled hard."
