Manatee County erred in letting lot rise in elevation

January 12, 2014

Since Manatee County is tweaking our flood hazard zone regulations, I would like to take this opportunity to offer the county administration a suggestion for another tweak regarding the flood plain:

Bring a grader, an end loader, and a few dump trucks out to 46th Avenue West and level the lot where you broke your own rules and OK'd an 8-foot increase in elevation 10 years ago!

That one-acre property, which may be mostly dredging waste and which is between us and the bay, is just waiting to cause mayhem for all ground-level homes in the neighborhood if we have a lot of water trying to get back out to the bay.

We haven't been flooded yet, and we would like to keep it that way.
