GAME NOTES: The Weber State Wildcats hope to avoid consecutive losses for the first time since opening the season with three straight setback, as they pay a visit to Big Sky Conference foe North Dakota on Saturday afternoon.
Weber State is coming off a 70-51 thrashing at the hands of Northern Colorado on Thursday night. Kyle Tresnak scored 14 points for the Wildcats, who had a three-game win streak snapped.
Wildcats' leading scorer Davion Berry added 13 points and Joel Bolomboy logged a double-double with 10 points and 14 boards for Weber State, which lost for the first time in three conference tilts and first Big Sky road game.
With the game tied at 22-22 with under four minutes to play in the first half, Northern Colorado took control by ending the frame on a 13-4 run to take a 35-26 lead into the break. The Wildcats got within seven points of the lead early in the second half, but the Bears pulled away for good following a 17-5 spurt.
Northern Colorado shot 50 percent from the field on the evening, including 7- of-15 from 3-point range. Weber State, meanwhile, shot just 37.8 percent from the floor, with a disappointing 4-of-13 showing from long range.
Berry averages a team-best 16.0 ppg, while Tresnak adds 11.8 ppg and Jeremy Senglin contributes 11.5 ppg. Joel Bolomboy is the squad's leading rebounder with 9.1 caroms per contest.
Weber State, which averages 71.5 ppg on 46 percent shooting, averages just 61.8 ppg on the road where the Wildcats are 0-5 this season.
North Dakota defeated Idaho State on Thursday night, 66-62, behind Jaron Nash's 21 points on 10-of-16 shooting. Troy Huff added 12 points and nine rebounds for North Dakota, which won its second straight conference game to improve to 2-1 in the Big Sky. Josh Schuler tallied 10 points for UND, which shot 45.2 percent from the field. North Dakota held 33-27 lead at the half and built the lead to 55-43 with seven minutes left before having to hold off a late Idaho run.
Huff leads the team in scoring with 21.3 ppg. He also pulls down a team-best 7.2 rpg. Nash (12.3) and Aaron Anderson (10.2) are the only other double-digit scorers for UND, which averages 74.1 ppg.
Weber State won all three meetings against North Dakota last season, winning by an average of 23 points in the two regular-season meeting, and then squeaking out a 76-74 decision in the Big Sky Tournament. Expect this season to start out differently as Weber State has been bad on the road, while UND has gone 5-1 at home.
