Manatee went 4-0 Friday during the first day of the Coach Kelly Memorial Hurricane Team Challenge.

The Hurricanes (25-6) defeated Tampa Alonso (63-15), Nova (72-6), Largo Pinellas Park (66-16) and Englewood Lemon Bay (68-12) to win the Latessa Pool.

Bobby Latessa was a back-to-back state champion at Manatee.

The Hurricanes are in the championship pool named the Skelton Pool after Brian Skelton, a three-time state champion at Manatee from 1982-84.

Skelton was the first one elected into Manatee's Ring of Honor on Friday. His singlet was framed and will be hung inside the team's wrestling room.

Joining Manatee in the Skelton Pool will be Kissimmee Gateway, Harmony, Nova, Jupiter, Dunedin and Lakeland.

Wrestling resumes 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Manatee has the first round off and will wrestle around 10:30 a.m.

Boys basketball

BAYSHORE 74, SOUTHEAST 65 -- Wesley Jackson won the scoring duel with Ronald Taylor, and Jackson's Bayshore Bruins defeated Taylor's Southeast Seminoles 74-65 at Bayshore.

Jackson poured in 30 points to lead the Bruins (10-9, 2-2 Class 5A-10), who scored the game's first 10 points but trailed 13-12 after one quarter. Justin Harris added 17 points, and Thomas McDuffie had 13.

The Seminoles (10-7, 1-3) got 28 from Taylor, 12 from Tre Alexandrea and 10 from Larry Woodard.

CARDINAL MOONEY 73, SAINT STEPHEN'S 30 -- Ryan McMahon's 18 points lifted the host Cougars to a rout of the Falcons.

Jared Aabel pitched in with 14 points, and Tommy Rao and Blair Perry had eight points apiece for Cardinal Mooney (9-6, 5-0 Class 3A-District 10).

Sid Price scored 11 points, and Omar Sammour had 10 for Saint Stephen's (6-7, 2-3).

Girls basketball

SOUTHEAST 68, ST. PETERSBURG GIBBS 40 -- The Seminoles rolled to their 15th consecutive win behind 23 points and eight rebounds from Keshawna Robinson.

DeAngela Mathis contributed 17 points, and Bevin Mays had eight as Southeast improved to 19-1 and 4-0 in Class 5A-District 10.

ODA 44, BISHOP MCLAUGHLIN 19 -- The host Thunder defeated the Hurricanes behind the one-two scoring punch of Lisa Hoffman's 21 points and Jenna Bloch's 14 points. Sierra VanSuch tossed in seven points for Out-of-Door Academy (9-4) against Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High of Spring Hill.

Boys soccer

BRADEN RIVER 7, CHARLOTTE 0 -- The Pirates rolled to a district win at home.

Sam Goodwin and Dominic Aluise had two goals apiece, and Garrett Gomez had a goal and two assists for Braden River (8-4-1, 7-3-1 Class 4A-District 11). Goodwin had an assist, too.

Elijah Bowers and Ian Crawford, Braden River's goalie, also scored and Mario Lopez had two assists. Crawford had four saves for his seventh shutout.
