MANATEE -- An Ellenton man has been charged with fondling a family member from when she was age 6 to 11.

Carl Edward Weese, 59, was arrested Wednesday and remained in the Manatee County jail Friday in lieu of a $100,000 bond, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office website.

Authorities say Weese, of the 200 block of Amsterdam Avenue, first touched the 6-year-old child under her bedclothes on several occasions in 2006 when she slept over at his home, a sheriff's office report states.

The touching got more involved when the girl got older, the victim reportedly told detectives.

The victim said the touching continued through May 24.

Brought in for questioning, Weese confirmed that sometimes when the victim was sleeping over at his house she would sometimes sleep in his bed when he went to bed before his wife. He also stated that he would sometimes rub the victim's back. Weese told the detectives, "If she got in bed with me and I rolled over and touched her inappropriately, God forgive me. I didn't do it intentionally," a report states.
