Ranch girlsfinish off firstunbeaten year

Julia Ortiz scored on a corner kick from Lindsay Martinez to give the Lakewood Ranch girls soccer team a 1-0 victory over visiting Riverview on Thursday, completing the first unbeaten regular season in school history.

The Mustangs (18-0-1) tied Braden River in the season opener, then ran off 18 straight victories.

Goalkeeper Alex Latham, who had four saves and recorded the shutout, was honored on Senior Night along with Martinez, Juliana Guida, Delaney Riggins, Gabby Photos and Briana Reda.

SAINT STEPHEN'S 5, ST. PETERSBURG KESWICK CHRISTIAN 2 -- Seniors scored all five goals on Senior Night as the Falcons finished the regular season at 11-1 with a win over the Crusaders.

Kristi Jones had two goals, and Becca Banks, Kirsten Samuels and Kayla Hayes had a goal apiece.

Boys soccer

MANATEE 2, LAKEWOOD RANCH 2 -- The Hurricanes scored with about seven minutes remaining to tie the visiting Mustangs (7-6-5).

Ryan Sollazzo and Reese Riggins scored the goals for Lakewood Ranch. Jake Dube and Ben Wilson had assists.

PALMETTO 5, SOUTHEAST 1 -- Gregorio Calvillo tied a career high by scoring all five goals as the host Tigers ripped the Seminoles.

Fernid Carlos, David Garza, Raul Loera and Tyler Lawrence added assists for Palmetto, which improved to 15-2. Goalkeeper Matt Simmonds made three saves.

Girls basketball

SOUTHEAST 63, CLEARWATER CALVARY CHRISTIAN 57 -- The Seminoles earned their 14th straight victory by beating a strong Warriors squad behind 24 points from DeAngela Mathis and 16 points from Keshawna Robinson.

Breyonna Reed nailed four straight free throws down the stretch to clinch the game for Southeast (18-1).

Calvary Christian, ranked No. 7 in Class 3A, is 16-3.

PALMETTO 55, BAYSHORE 25 -- Jermisha Collins and Tina Stephens each poured in 16 points as the visiting Tigers (12-6) blew out the Bruins.

Joy Norman led Bayshore with 10 points.

Palmetto will host Braden River at noon Saturday at Lincoln Elementary.

• Anissa Washington scored 22 points, and Moe Jones added 13 as the Tigers won the junior varsity contest 43-37.

LAKEWOOD RANCH 61, BRADEN RIVER 29 -- Emily Bulfin and Jessica Reid had 13 points apiece as the host Mustangs got the best of their rivals.

LaDazhia Williams added 12 points and eight rebounds. Bulfin made six steals for Lakewood Ranch (16-3, 5-1 Class 7A-District 10).

The Pirates got 12 points from Kelly Logan.
