Educators coming to Mixon's for talk Jan. 14

MANATEE -- John Colon of the Florida State Board of Education, along with representatives from the Florida Department of Education, will discuss Common Core State Standards from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mixon Fruit Farms in the Honeybell Hall, 2525 27th St E.

Colon will clarify the state position on Common Core, correct any misinformation, discuss current status, review progress over the last couple of years and explain future plans.

Tampa Bay Case Studies Program closed to public

BRADENTON -- The third annual Tampa Bay Case Studies Program hosted by The Out-of-Door Academy will take place Sunday.

Seven schools from the Tampa Bay area work together to create this program for junior students and their families.

It is not open to the public.

More than 600 students and families from Academy of Holy Names, Berkeley Preparatory School, Canterbury School of Florida, Saint Stephen's Episcopal School, Shorecrest Preparatory School, Tampa Preparatory School and The Out-of-Door Academy will be in Lakewood Ranch to meet with roughly 60 college representatives, including those from Boston College, Emory University, Davidson and the University of Miami.
