Sixteenth annual "Thunder by the Bay": various locations, Sarasota

The 16th annual "Thunder by the Bay" Motorcycle Festival will hold a "Born to be Wild" kick-off party 7 p.m.-midnight Jan. 10 at The Hyatt Regency Sarasota featuring casino-style gambling, Harley-Davidson fashion show, silent auction, prize drawings and live music by Kettle of Fish. The event continues with a downtown festival 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Jan. 11 featuring live entertainment throughout the day by Whiskey Blind, Twinkle and Soul Rock Radio, Sean Chambers, Matthew Facciolla Band, Foghat and a special "Light up the Night" led bike show at 7:30 p.m. The "Legacy of Valor" motorcycle ride will begin with registration 9 a.m., with a blessing of the bikes with last bike in at 1:30 p.m. at O'Leary's Tiki Bar and Grill, a downtown festival 11 a.m.-6 p.m. featuring vendors, demonstrations and great food, and a 14-class bike show 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. featuring live entertainment by Selwyn Birchwood, Jasmine Cain and the Outlaws Jan. 12. Annual Antique Bottle and Tabletop Collectibles Show: Bradenton Area Convention Center, One Haben Blvd., Palmetto

The Suncoast Antique Bottle Collectors Club will hold its 45th annual Antique Bottle and Tabletop Collectibles Show 3-7:45 p.m. Jan. 10 and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 11, featuring a wide variety of items including advertising signs, pottery, stoneware, antique bottles, fossils, jewelry, artifacts, glass rolling pins, witch balls and more. Vintage Porsche Show: Bradenton Riverwalk, along the Manatee River east of the skateboard park

The Porsche 356 Florida Owners Group will hold a vintage Porsche show 8 a.m.-noon Jan. 11 along the Manatee River. The event is free.

Sidewalk Astronomy: south parking lot at 8141 Main Street, Lakewood Ranch

The local group of Deep Sky Observers, a Manatee/Sarasota group of astronomy enthusiasts, will offer the public a chance to view spectacular celestial sights through their high-powered telescopes 6-10 p.m. Jan. 11, weather permitting. Participants will be treated to up close views of the moon and other celestial objects as they become visible throughout the evening. The event is free and open to the public. Annual Orchid Show and Sale: Sarasota Municipal Auditorium, 801 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota

The Sarasota Orchid Society will host its 57th annual Orchid Show and Sale 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 11 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 12. "A Symphony of Orchids" is the theme and will showcase thousands of award-winning orchids in displays created by local orchid societies and orchid vendors competing to win best display in show. A variety of orchids and orchid related accessories will be available for purchase from expert growers and artists. Visitors will have the opportunity to interact with the growers and attend free educational seminars. Admission: $5 adults, $1 students with valid ID, children ages 7 and younger are admitted free. Anna Maria Island Privateers Thieve's Markets: Holmes Beach City Field, 5801 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach

The Anna Maria Island Privateers will kick off the 2014 season of Thieve's Markets 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Jan. 11 featuring special treasures in part craft bizarre, part flea market. Admission and parking are free. Information: 941-812-8318.

Come and stroll the Beach Market at Coquina Beach 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sundays through April 24.
